For licensed Collaborators with permission for this task. Check the selected organisation; feature availability and record access still apply.
What you will achieve
Record time against the correct project, either with a timer or a manual entry, and verify the recorded duration.
Before you start
Confirm the project, time-recording policy and whether the work is billable. Check that time tracking is enabled and that you have access to the relevant project.
Do not record the same work once against a task and again against its project unless the organisation explicitly intends two distinct records.
Use the timer
- Open the project's Time area.
- Check whether a timer is already running. The interface can indicate that it is running against another record.
- Select Start timer only when you begin this work.
- When you stop or switch work, use the running timer control to stop it.
- Inspect the resulting entry. Confirm the parent project and duration rather than relying only on the elapsed-time display.
The interface prevents starting another timer while one is already running. Resolve the current timer rather than trying to create overlapping sessions.
Log time manually
- Select Log Time, or Log Time Manually in the empty state.
- Enter the actual duration using the form's duration controls.
- Set the date worked, category and a concise description.
- Review the billable option according to the agreed policy.
- Select Log Time and wait for the saved entry.
- Reopen or edit the entry if needed and use Update for an authorised correction.
Write enough context to explain the work without including confidential customer details unnecessarily.
Check it worked
Reload Time Entries and inspect the saved date, duration, description and billable state. Review the Time Allocation view with the appropriate filters; the visible total may represent only the selected period or population.
Check that a stopped timer is no longer running and that you have not also entered the same period manually.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Next action |
|---|---|
| A timer was left running | Stop it, inspect the entry and correct it through the supported edit controls |
| Save result is uncertain | Reload the entry list before creating another entry |
| Total looks wrong | Check period filters, duplicate entries and which parent holds the work |
| An entry should be deleted | Confirm the exact entry and recordkeeping policy before using Delete |
Human judgement matters
Time recorded is not a measure of value, quality or acceptance. A billable flag is not itself an invoice or customer approval.
What next?
For the wider context, see Manage projects, goals, assets and knowledge.
Review entries while the work is still fresh, then use them as one input to project planning and any approved reporting process.
