Accept or decline a company-group invitation

For licensed Collaborators with permission for this task. Check the selected organisation; feature availability and record access still apply.

What you will achieve

Respond to a group invitation on behalf of the correct organisation and understand whether membership still needs confirmation by the inviter.

Before you start

Verify the group, inviter and purpose through a trusted relationship. Sign in with the invited identity and confirm authority to represent the organisation. If the invitation was sent to the wrong person, ask the inviter to correct it rather than forwarding credentials.

Know which organisation should join. A person belonging to several organisations must not accept using whichever workspace happened to be selected last.

Review and respond

  1. Open the trusted invitation or the incoming invitation area in Company groups.
  2. Read the group name, inviting organisation and any message.
  3. Check the selected organisation or organisation choice in the acceptance journey. Confirm it is the firm the invitation concerns.
  4. Review the membership implications with your organisation's authorised owner if they are unclear.
  5. Use Accept only when the invitation and organisation are correct.
  6. Read the resulting status. An acceptance may await the inviter's confirmation of the selected organisation.
  7. If you should not join, choose Decline and complete the offered reason fields as appropriate.
  8. Return to My Memberships or the invitation list and verify the result.

If confirmation is pending

Contact the inviter through the established channel and identify the intended firm. Do not accept again under another organisation to try to clear the state.

The inviter may confirm the choice or reject an incorrect membership. Treat that as a distinct decision from your acceptance, and wait for a clear resulting membership state before relying on group access.

After joining

Open the membership and review its actual requirements, mandates and sharing controls. Accepting membership is not equivalent to answering a survey, adopting a framework or releasing all of your organisation's evidence.

Agree who will maintain the relationship and who has authority to respond or disclose information.

Check it worked

The invitation shows the intended response and the correct organisation appears in your memberships with its actual state. Any pending inviter confirmation is visible and understood.

If something goes wrong

Problem Next action
Invitation belongs to another identity Ask for a corrected invitation
Wrong organisation was selected Contact the inviter promptly and stop further sharing
Link is expired or superseded Request a current invitation and use only that one
Membership exists but information is unavailable Check confirmation, role and disclosure eligibility separately

Human judgement matters

You are representing an organisation, not merely accepting a personal connection. Confirm authority and scope before making the decision.

What next?

For the wider context, see Manage clients and company groups. Review the membership's assigned work and nominate the people responsible for responses and disclosure.
