For anyone who belongs to one or more Backstory organisations. The same identity may have different account levels and permissions in each workspace.
What you will achieve
Choose the right workspace and verify its context before reading, creating or changing organisational information.
Before you start
Sign in as yourself. Know the name of the organisation you need and what you expect to do there. If two organisations have similar names, ask their administrators to confirm which is intended rather than guessing.
Save any unsaved work before switching. Do not assume that an open form will safely move from one organisation to another.
Select a workspace
- Open the organisation selection screen. It may appear after sign-in, or use the organisation-selection entry point offered in the application.
- Review the organisations associated with your identity.
- Select the intended organisation and allow Backstory to finish changing context.
- Check the organisation name shown in the application before opening or editing a record.
- Open the task from that organisation's navigation or your original trusted link.
- If you arrived through a link to another workspace, confirm both the record and the selected organisation. An access error is a reason to check context, not to recreate the record elsewhere.
If you have only one organisation, the application may select it automatically. Still check the organisation before taking a sensitive action.
Understand different access
Membership in one organisation does not grant membership in another. Your licensed Collaborator access or administrative permissions may also differ between them.
A Participant should use the workspace connected to the assigned request. If the expected organisation is absent, ask its administrator to check the invitation and membership for the identity you actually used.
The create-organisation option is for establishing a new workspace with authority. It is not the recovery route for a missing membership.
Check it worked
The selected organisation is correct, the expected records are available and your actual permissions fit the task. Where names are ambiguous, retain an approved record reference for support rather than relying solely on a screenshot of the organisation name.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | Next action |
|---|---|
| Organisation is missing | Verify identity, invitation and membership with its administrator |
| A record opens with an access error | Check its organisation and your role; do not copy it elsewhere |
| Organisation changes but old content appears | Allow loading to finish, refresh and check context again before editing |
| Two names look identical | Ask for confirmation using an exact organisation reference |
Human judgement matters
The selected workspace is a data boundary, not a cosmetic preference. Always recheck it before inviting people, sharing evidence or accepting a financial commitment.
What next?
For the wider context, see Find and organise your work. Open your assigned work. Administrators should verify context again before changing organisation-wide settings.
Get help
Ask your Organisation Administrator about access or the task owner about the content. For a platform error, include this guide reference, the affected page and a sanitised message. Never share passwords, session details or confidential evidence in an open support request.
