Offboard or reactivate an organisation member

For Organisation Administrators with authority for this task. Check the selected organisation before making a change.

What you will achieve

Disable, remove or re-enable a membership using the supported controls, while checking the person's responsibilities and paid-seat allocation separately.

Before you start

Confirm the exact person and organisation, the authorised effective date and whether this is temporary suspension or permanent removal. Arrange a handover of tasks, accountable roles and other responsibilities before access ends where appropriate.

Have another authorised administrator available if your own access might be affected. Owner memberships have protected controls; do not attempt to bypass those restrictions.

Disable a membership

  1. Open Settings > Organisation > Membership > Members.
  2. Find the person by name and email, then verify their current status and member type.
  3. Open that person's actions menu and choose Disable member.
  4. Review the confirmation and choose Disable only when the decision and timing are correct.
  5. Refresh the list and verify the membership is inactive.
  6. Review outstanding work and responsibility assignments. Disabling membership is not evidence that those records have been reassigned.
  7. In Licensing, review any paid allocation separately. Releasing a paid seat and reducing the purchased subscription quantity are different actions.

Remove or reactivate

For permanent removal, use Remove member only after the handover and retention requirements are settled. The confirmation warns that the action cannot be undone; do not use removal as a temporary pause.

For reactivation, find the inactive member and choose Enable member. Confirm, then review the person's roles, audiences and licence before asking them to resume work. Their earlier access may no longer fit their responsibilities.

Check it worked

The membership list reflects the intended status, the work handover has named owners, and licensing matches the commercial decision. Where authorised, ask the person or support team to verify the resulting access. Do not request their credentials.

If something goes wrong

Problem Next action
Disable or Remove is unavailable for an owner Escalate through an approved ownership-support route
The operation times out Refresh and inspect membership before retrying
Reactivated person still cannot work Check licence, role and organisation selection
Removal was accidental Contact support; do not promise a one-click undo or restoration

Human judgement matters

Membership removal is not deletion of the person's historical contributions, nor a platform-wide account suspension. Keep employment, retention and security decisions within your organisation's approved processes.

What next?

For the wider context, see Manage members, roles and access. Review the remaining team responsibilities and confirm that any subscription change is separately authorised.

Get help

Ask your Organisation Administrator about access or the task owner about the content. For a platform error, include this guide reference, the affected page and a sanitised message. Never share passwords, session details or confidential evidence in an open support request.
